I need a way out - 2009/04/17 23:46
Hi, I'm posting with the hope of gaining help to get off oxycontin. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a terminal form of Parkinsons Disease ( Progressive Supranuclear Palsy )and a little over 2 years ago I was prescribeb Oxycontin to help with severe chronic pain. Thanks to the benevolence of my parents I traveled to Oxford University Hospitals in the UK to see a top PSP specialist 6 months ago and thankfully it turns out that I do not have PSP but another form of Young Onset Parkinsons that is unlikely to shorten my life. Up until 1 month ago I was on 240mg per day as prescribed by my pain management doctor and although chronic pain is still a part of my daily life I have managed to cut back to 160mg per day through sheer determination. I hate being dependent on this drug, if I'm as little as an hour late with my dose I start going into withdrawal, I feel like a legalised junky. I would like to know if it's possible to get off this drug and treat my pain with a less addictive medicine. I'm on Medicare and would like to know where I can go to get help with detox and alternative medications/treatments.
